Class 91 locomotives were introduced to the newly-electrified ECML between London and Leeds in 1989.
Initially they operated with HST sets, replacing one of the two HST power cars. On the through train to
Bradford, the HST power car was able to haul the train over the non-electrified line from Leeds to Bradford,
but another diesel locomotive was required for the return to Leeds. Here, 47406 arrives at Bradford Forster
Square to couple up to 91003 at the head of the 19.30 to King's Cross, on 7 September 1989. |
