Class 55 Deltic at Settle Junction Preserved Deltic locomotive D9000 "Royal Scots Grey" was regularly hired by Virgin Trains to work scheduled passenger trains. It is seen here at Settle Junction, with the 07.38 Glasgow Central to Bournemouth CrossCountry service, diverted from the West Coast Main Line because of engineering works on 13 March 1999.
Class 60 at Wilmslow 60006 "Scunthorpe Ironmaster", in British Steel livery, passes through Wilmslow station with a northbound freight on 4 March 1999.
Class 170 at St Pancras Midland Mainline obtained a number of Class 170 Turbostar units in order to increase service frequencies from the summer 1999 timetable change. Before that date, 170108 is seen at St Pancras prior to working the 16.15 to Derby on 5 April. The Class 170s did not stay with MML for long - they have now obtained the Class 222 'Meridian' units in their place. St Pancras station has since been transformed into the international terminal for Eurostar.
Class 305 at North Berwick Built in 1960 for services out of London Liverpool Street, a few Class 305 units survived until January 2002 on Edinburgh - North Berwick services. 305501 is departing from North Berwick on 28 August, as the 12.20 to Edinburgh.
Class 312, Shoeburyness 312797 at Shoeburyness with the 17.05 LTS Rail service to Fenchurch Street on 4 September. The train operator rebranded as "c2c" in 2000.
