Class 73 locomotives continued to operate the Gatwick Express
services in 2000, although their replacements, Class 460 units,
started to enter service from July. 73209 arrives at Gatwick
Airport, with the 15.15 from Victoria, on 30 July 2000. |

37426 leads the 13.23 Holyhead - Stockport past Conwy Castle,
on 1 May 2000. Late delivery of new Class 175 units enabled
40-year-old Class 37s to survive until the end of the year on
North Wales passenger duties. |

From summer 2000, GNER hired 'North of London'
Eurostar sets to provide additional services between London and
York. These sets were originally intended for through services
between Scotland, the North of England, Paris and Brussels, but
these international services have never materialised. This
picture shows 373303/04 at Colton, south of York, with the 17.11
York to London (King's Cross) on 18 June. |

165025 at Chalfont & Latimer with the 14.38 from Amersham to
London Marylebone on 20 May. This is a Chiltern Railways
service, and at this point in its journey it is running on the
tracks of the London Underground's Metropolitan Line. |
