Arriva CrossCountry HST at Newquay

A CrossCountry HST, with power car 43366 leading, awaits departure from Newquay, with the Summer Sundays 11.30 to Edinburgh, on 21 June

Class 90 at Birmingham New St

When Virgin Trains were short of Class 390 Pendolino trains for their West Coast Main Line services, they hired in a Class 90 locomotive and a Mk3 set of coaching stock to cover some workings between London Euston and Birmingham. This was the case during most of the summer of 2009, while 390006 was undergoing repairs after a low speed collision in Wembley depot. On 17 June 90019, in First ScotRail livery, arrives at Birmingham New Street with the 07.43 from Euston. The 110mph speed limit of the Class 90 (compared with 125mph for Pendolinos) meant that a late arrival was inevitable: on this occasion it was 19 minutes late arriving.

 Class 67 at Weston-super-Mare

EWS 67017 at Weston-super-Mare, with the 11.02 Taunton to Cardiff on 22 June. 67016 was at the rear of the train. The train is operated by First Great Western, using hired-in locos and coaches to cover for a shortage of diesel multiple-unit trains.
