General Motors locomotive 751 failed
just south of Ayaviri while working the 07.00 Puno - Cuzco on
13 October 1990. The altitude here was about 3900m (12800ft):
the line reaches a summit of 4319m (14172ft) about 60km further
north at La Raya, one of the highest railway summits in the world.
On this occasion the driver was able to repair the fault without
any serious delay. |
