I finally visited this small country, with its very limited rail service, in April/May 2026.

ChME3 at Ungheni Soviet-built ChME3-5740 has just shunted the Kyiv portion of the 19.06 from Bucureşti Nord from the bogie changing area into the platform at Ungheni station, on the morning of 30 April 2026. At the far end of the train is Ukrainian loco 2TE116-1315 which will take the train onwards.
TE33AC at Chisinau TE33AC-3011 stands at Chişinău on 30 April 2026 after arrival with the overnight 19.06 from Bucureşti Nord "Prietenia". The locomotive was built in Kazakhstan under licence from GE.
TE33AC at Balti GE diesel TE33AC-3012 at Balţi Oraş with Train 351, the overnight Kyiv to Chişinău service, on 2 May 2026. The train had left Kyiv the previous evening at 18.06.
D1M at Iasi-Socola Over the border in Romania, at the limit of broad gauge track at Socola on the outskirts of Iaşi, is Moldovan unit D1M-002. It has arrived with the 06.27 from Chişinău on 3 May 2026.
