	Italy's flagship trains are the ETR500 high speed trains which operate premier services to and from Rome. Set 026 is seen here at Ferrara forming the 07.00 Roma - Venezia. The date is 23 March 1999, when only about one third of train services were running, because of a strike.
	The E424 class of electric locomotives date from the 1940s. This is E424 348 at Tarantola on 26 March 1999, on the 08.35 to Foligno (Umbria).
	445.1100 arrives at Catanzaro Lido, in the far south of Italy, with the 11.26 from Lamezia Terme to Reggio di Calabria. 5 November 1992
	The Ferrovia della Calabria operates a very scenic narrow-gauge route through the mountains between Cosenza and Catanzaro. M₄C.352 descends towards Croce Santa Maria with the 13.45 Catanzaro Città to Catanzaro Lido on 5 November 1992. The railway uses a rack section to reach the city of Catanzaro, visible in the background.
