Electrification and rebuilding of the Athens to Thessaloniki
main line was substantially complete by the spring of 2019 and
trains are now hauled throughout by Class 120 electric
locomotives. This is 120 020 at Larissa on 20 May 2019, with
the 12.22 Athens to Thessaloniki. |

The Inter-City diesel units which were built for the main
line in the 1990s are now used on less-important services. 520
111 has arrived at Ormenio, close to the Bulgarian border, with
the 08.40 from Alexandroupoli on 23 May 2019. There are currently
no regular services across the border to Svilengrad. |
